10 Best Restaurants in Newberg Oregon (from a local)
Looking for some delicious food to enjoy in Newberg?
One of the most common questions I get from guests is “Where’s a good place to eat?”
Sometimes it’s nice to get recommendation from a real person and not from an algorithm-generated list.
I’ve lived just outside of Newberg for almost a decade and I’ve worked in local hospitality for years. While I tend to focus a little more on the wine industry, this post is all about the town’s satiating food scene.
Newberg is a small university town in northwest Oregon wine country, and it just happens to have a lot of great restaurant options.
So, if you’re looking for the perfect way to cap off a day in wine country, or you’re hungry NOW, I’ve got you covered. Keep reading for my 10 best restaurants in Newberg!
Best Restaurants In Newberg: Quick Guide
Looking for a topline summary? Here’s a quick list of the best places to eat in our wine town:
- Rosemarino – my favorite restaurant in Newberg
- Alpha Bravo – best ramen in Newberg
- Newbergundian – best mid-priced restaurant
- Kopitos – best Mexican food
Do I need reservations?
My advice on this is pretty standard for anything in wine country – it’s better to call ahead just in case. Most places will take walk-ins but there’s no guarantee. Especially on weekends and peak meal times.
So take the 90 seconds to call and avoid having to come up with a new plan when everyone’s getting hangry.
My Top 10 Restaurants in Newberg
I’ll never forget the time we went to visit a relative in the suburbs of Boise. I asked the same question- where’s a good place to eat? He listed off the usual suspects: Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Chilis… and that was it.
When we pressed him for something unique and local, he couldn’t come up with a single place. It was so depressing!
Luckily you won’t find that issue here in Newberg. There are lots of unique restaurants to choose from.
I’ve included some practical details like address and hours, but please make sure to confirm before you go – things change all the time.
The Newbergundian Bistro
Don’t let its unassuming exterior fool you. Its warm and unpretentious atmosphere makes the bistro a popular stop for both locals and those exploring wine country.
Enjoy classic American dishes along with French counterparts like Coq au Vin, Steak Frites, and Bouillabaisse… which means the name makes a little more sense now, right? And now they serve breakfast!
Locals Know:
They don’t take reservations. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis, so plan accordingly.

Known for its wood-fired pizza, salads and Italian comfort food. Housed in a cozy craftsman farmhouse located right on 1st St.
Standout dishes including wood-fired pizzas like fennel sausage and seasonal veggie options. Other favorites include mushroom bolognese, Caprese salad, and decadent desserts.. They also offer a curated wine list and local craft beers.
Takeout is also available if you’re looking for something to take back to your hotel or vacation rental.

Jory
Jory is the house restaurant for the high-end Allison Inn and Spa. The Allison has been the gold standard for lodging in the area since 2009 and Jory continues to serve both guests and locals alike.
Some reviewers find it overpriced and I guess that’s fair. It is a resort, after all.
But I always enjoy coming here. The view isn’t expansive, but there’s a fireplace and lots of big windows looking down onto the south side of the property. Sometimes there’s piano music in the lounge.
It’s about as Gatsby-esque as you’re gonna get around here.
There’s seating around the open kitchen if you want to watch the chefs at work. There’s also plenty of outdoor seating to grab a drink and as you’d expect the wine list is extensive.
Trivia Nerds take note: JORY is the deep, well-drained, reddish volcanic soil that’s common to the area. In fact, it’s the official state soil of Oregon.
Locals Know:
The lunch menu is less flashy than dinner, but so are the prices.
Or in the evening you can have a sandwich in the lounge while enjoying live piano music and a fire in the fireplace.

Rosmarino Osteria Italiana – My Favorite place to eat in Newberg
This is definitely the most coveted reservation in Newberg. Head chef and owner Dario is originally from Italy and his big personality has made him an icon of the local food scene.
Rosmarino offers several different options, depending on the night that you go. Casual nights (a la carte) feature housemaid pastas, salads and small plates. Sundays are always pizza and gnocchi.
If you want something more elaborate, check out Dario’s wine pairing dinners on Friday and Saturday. They’re definitely the star of the show!
Locals Know:
Locals Know: Rosmarino is frequently booked out day ahead of time. This is probably the hardest table to book in Newberg, so try to reserve ahead of time. 2+ weeks out would be recommended!
Also, their website is notoriously confusing. Don’t let it throw you, the food is worth it.
If you have trouble finding the reservation button, just use this link.

Alpha Bravo – Uber Cool Ramen Bar
Have you ever been to a speakeasy-style ramen bar? This was certainly my first time.
If you like ramen you will love this place. If you don’t like ramen, don’t go because that’s all they serve!
The format is “build your own bowl”, where they offer you a card to fill out with your preferred options. Pick a protein, sides, extras etc.
They’ve definitely leaned into the 1920s Art Deco vibe and I absolutely love it. Think dark emerald walls, brass light fixtures, and feather chandeliers. All these things combined make it a great place for a fun date night.
Locals Know:
This is speakeasy style, so you have to enter through the art gallery. There’s a curtained doorway on the back right wall that leads to the restaurant.

Kopitos Cocina – Fantastic Mexican Food
If you’re familiar with Oregon you know we love our food trucks! Kopitos is one of two restaurants on this list that started as a truck and grew into its own brick and mortar location.
Family owned and offering up delicious Mexican food in a modest location downtown. Empanadas, Tacos, Burritos… They have live music and serve cocktails as well.
This is definitely not fast food, prices aren’t cheap but the food is excellent. I recommend the fish tacos!

SubTerra Kitchen
SubTerra is a great way to finish off a day of wine tasting!
A simple but well crafted menu, focusing on local and seasonal ingredients (I know everyone says that these days, but in this case it’s true). Their seafood is always delicious and definitely explore any mushroom or truffle options if they’re in season.
I also appreciate that the service is always on point, which isn’t always the case out here with a limited labor pool.
Locals Know:
SubTerra is little hidden, hence the name. It’s located in the basement of the building. Look for the sign at the top of the ramp

Gusto Gastronomica Italiana – Great for take out and Gifts
OK so Gusto’s isn’t actually a restaurant per se, it’s more of a deli. It’s still totally worth a visit.
It’s an offshoot of Rosemarino Osteria, and features everything you’d expect:
- Questionable website
- Long name that you can’t fully remember
- Delicious food from Dario and his crew
In fact Gusto’s actually features some of the same sauces and recipes you’ll find at the main restaurant.
The storefront is a little unassuming, it’s in an office building next to Fred Meyer. But the food inside is absolutely legit.
- Housemade pasta
- Sauces
- Delicious Panini
- Desserts
- Wine and cheese
Check out the sidewall of dry goods, these make fantastic gifts for the Foodies in your life

This is a great option for anyone staying at a vacation rental with limited time (or energy) to cook dinner.

Trellis
Trellis is one of my go-to recommendations when guests are looking for a casual lunch that’s not going to take too long or cost too much money.
The menu consists of soups, salads, hot sandwiches and pastas plus a solid list of wines by the glass. Located in Dundee, about 2 minutes outside of Newberg.
Locals Know:
Happy Hour is Mon-Fri 2-5pm for 50% off of all beverages, including wine by the glass.

Wooden Heart
Originally started as a pizza truck, Wooden Heart opened its brick oven-and-mortar location (see what I did there?) in 2023. They still offer wood-fired pizzas, as well as a selection of pastas, burgers, and sandwiches.
I really like the atmosphere here, it’s clean and contemporary while still feeling comfortable. Their copper-tiled pizza oven is pretty cool looking too.
Service can be a little sleepy, but staff is friendly and we always leave happy.

The salt + pepper calamari is not to be missed!

Coffee and Treats
Chapters Books and Coffee/Cream
Books, coffee, ice cream… yes please!
Owned by locals Bill and Maureen Rogers, Chapters is an independent bookstore in downtown Newberg that also serves coffee and pastries.
In addition, they have a permanent house guest – Cream Northwest ice cream shares the space 1-7pm. .
Coffee is locally sourced, including from Caravan (see below). Chapters is a great place to support a family-owned, independent bookstore.

Caravan Coffee
Sometimes you walk into a place and immediately know “these guys know their shit”. Caravan is that kind of place.
Caravan is a wholesale roaster as well as operating their tasting room, so you know the quality is going to be high-end. In fact you can watch the action through a window into the production space.
You won’t find a bunch of foofy drinks on the menu (nothing wrong with that kind of stuff either) but the menu is simple and straightforward. There are a few flavorings available, but the focus is definitely on the coffee.
I also like that they take pride in ethically sourcing their coffee beans. Caravan also offers coffee flights and tours, which I’ve never done but sounds fun!
Locals Know:
This is not the easiest place to find. Located on a small side street in a warehouse district. If you think you took a wrong turn, you’re probably going the right way.

Hours: Monday through Friday: 7am – 3pm, Saturday and Sunday: 9am – 2pm

Getting Around/Orientation
Most visitors will come into town from the east via Rt 99. Almost all of Newberg’s businesses are centered around this main road.
The highway splits into two one-ways through the historic downtown (it becomes Hancock and 1st) then rejoins itself on the way to Dundee.
There’s also a bypass on Highway 18 that circumvents part of Newberg as well as Dundee. Depending on traffic it might save you some time if you’re heading out to the coast.
Where to Stay in Newberg
If you’re considering staying in Newberg for your trip, here are some helpful tips:
The Allison Inn and Spa – When You Want the Best
The flagship hotel for Newberg is without question The Allison Inn and Spa. It’s been an area mainstay since 2009 and continues to attract discerning guests from around the world.
It’s a beautiful facility, the architecture and grounds are well done. They’ve also done a great job at making it feel secluded even though it sits just on the edge of town.
Some rooms have vineyard views, and you can walk to nearby Rain Dance Vineyards directly from the inn. As mentioned there’s an in-house restaurant and full spa too.
Looking for something more moderately priced?
There are three main hotels downtown: Holiday Inn, Travelodge, and Best Western.
They’re all along the same stretch of Route 99 in the traffic-heavy commercial area. If you have a favorite between these go for it, honestly I think they’re mostly interchangeable in this situation.
Looking for something quiet and out of the way? There are three strong options outside of town.
Willamette Valley Bed and Breakfast
Hosts Dan and Maureen have built a lovely oasis just minutes outside of town. 5 suites and a really good breakfast!
The Setting Inn
Just a little further up the road and a few more room options. Every guest I’ve talked to has had good things to say.
Chehalem Ridge Bed and Breakfast.
The view! Perched on top of (you guessed it) Chehalem Ridge and located about 10 minutes north of town. Well appointed rooms, fireplaces, and a delicious breakfast.
The Wrap-Up
That’s a pretty solid list if I do say so!
Newberg may be just a small college town, but it’s full of unique places to eat. So, regardless of your foodie preferences or budget, I’m pretty confident that our top 10 list will keep you satisfied during your trip to wine country.
